ỌMỌ KÁÀRỌ OJÍRE

Okay now. Let's talk about Yoruba as not just a language, but a culture.

Many Yoruba people of nowadays seems to have forgotten all about their culture, language and customs all in the name of civilization. Well then, I somewhat agree. Why, because change is constant. But yet, one should never forget his origin. Yoruba people will say, 'odò tó gbàgbé orísùún rẹ̀ ni ó gbe' (A river that forgets its source dries up).
With this been said, let's get to some facts about the Yorùbá culture.

📍 They are known as one of the earliest thriving civilizations in Africa.

Their progenitor is believed to be Oduduwa, a migrant from the middle-east who settled down in the present-day Ile-Ife. This is why the Ooni of Ife is regarded as the foremost and paramount ruler in Yoruba land.

📍In terms of Arts, Literature and Craft, The Ile-Ife bronze head proves that the Yorubas have art skills different from anywhere in the world. The first Nigerian to receive a Nobel laureate is Prof. Wole Soyinka, a Yoruba man who specializes in rich usage of Yoruba Literature.

📍Entertainment: The Yoruba people can boast of different genres of music such as fuji, afro-juju, and afro beats, among others.

Music legends like Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, Lagbaja, Ayinde Barrister, and the likes.

Contemporary artists like Wizkid, Olamide, Davido, and Tiwa Savage have lightened up the international scene as well.

📍 some of these are some of the well known Yorùbá deities

Oya: who was one of ṣàngó's wife and goddess of the wind.

Ògún: God of iron

Ṣàngó: God of thunder (he's not Zeus tho )

Èṣù (not the biblical translation of Satan): He serves as a police and judges those who commits small crimes like theft and so on...

These and many more are facts about Yorùbá that any Yorùbá out there should be proud off.

I represent Ìjẹ̀bú, ògùn state.
And you?

I am Jò há nùù
Stay blessed.
